Overview 2024 Acura MDX
The 2024 Acura MDX is a premium three-row SUV for drivers who appreciate athletic handling over outright luxury. A 290-hp V-6 engine powers most models and provides plenty of power. Every MDX offers an enjoyable experience for those behind the wheel, but this is especially true in the sportiest Type S trim, which comes standard with all-wheel drive, a 355-hp turbocharged V-6, and an adjustable air suspension system.
Seating is spacious for adults in the first and second rows, but the MDX’s rearmost row is only suitable for kids. The interior design is upscale and offers a good amount of tech features, but if you’re seeking outright luxury and the finest materials, you’ll be better served by rivals such as the Genesis GV80, the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, and the Volvo XC90. However, the Acura is cheaper than those alternatives, so if you’re not picky, it will save you a bundle and bring a more satisfying driving experience to your driveway.
The automotive industry has been continuously evolving, with each year bringing forth a new wave of innovation and technological advancements. In 2024, Acura has once again raised the bar with the launch of the all-new Acura MDX, a luxury SUV that redefines the driving experience. This vehicle seamlessly combines elegance, performance, and cutting-edge technology, setting new standards for what a modern SUV can offer. Join us as we take a closer look at the 2024 Acura MDX and discover the elements that make it a standout in its class.
Design and Exterior of the 2024 Acura MDX
The 2024 Acura MDX boasts a captivating exterior design that effortlessly commands attention on the road. The vehicle’s bold and sculpted lines exude a sense of confidence, while the signature Diamond Pentagon grille instantly captures the eye. The Jewel Eye LED headlights not only enhance visibility but also add a touch of sophistication to the front fascia.
Moving to the rear, the MDX features striking LED taillights and dual exhaust outlets, further accentuating its sporty appeal. The sleek profile of the vehicle is complemented by available 20-inch alloy wheels, which not only elevate the aesthetics but also contribute to an exhilarating driving experience. Acura’s meticulous attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the MDX’s exterior, making it a true masterpiece of automotive design.
Interior Comfort and Luxury of the 2024 Acura MDX
Stepping inside the 2024 Acura MDX reveals a world of unparalleled comfort and luxury. The spacious cabin is meticulously crafted with premium materials, showcasing exquisite detailing and refined craftsmanship. The available Milano leather seating surfaces offer first-class comfort, while the natural wood accents and brushed aluminum trim exude an air of sophistication.
The MDX prioritizes passenger comfort with three rows of seating, providing ample space for seven passengers. Additionally, advanced features such as tri-zone climate control and available heated and ventilated seats ensure that every journey is met with the utmost comfort. Whether it’s a daily commute or a long road trip, the interior of the Acura MDX is designed to elevate the driving experience to new heights.
The cabin of the MDX has a premium look and feel, especially on high-end trims, which come with French-stitched leather on the dashboard and open-pore wood intermingled with metal and piano-black accents. Acura has also outfitted the MDX with plenty of creature comforts, such as dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and leather upholstery. The front seats are supportive and comfortable and can be equipped with niceties such as 16-way power adjustability as well as massage.
The first and second rows offer plentiful passenger space, but the MDX’s third row is still a kids-only affair. Although the interior is nicely designed and offers plenty of convenience options, it doesn’t feel quite as posh as the cabins of rivals such as the Genesis GV80 or the Volvo XC90.
Performance and Handling of the 2024 Acura MDX
Under the hood, the 2024 Acura MDX delivers an exhilarating performance that is both responsive and efficient. Equipped with a robust V6 engine, the MDX effortlessly unleashes an impressive amount of power while maintaining exceptional fuel efficiency. The available Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) system further enhances the vehicle’s capabilities, providing enhanced stability and agility across various road conditions.
Acura’s commitment to precision engineering is evident in the MDX’s dynamic driving dynamics. The vehicle’s chassis is engineered to deliver a harmonious balance between comfort and performance, allowing drivers to experience seamless handling and precise control. Whether navigating city streets or tackling winding roads, the 2024 Acura MDX offers a driving experience that is both exhilarating and confidence-inspiring.
The regular MDX is powered by a 290-hp 3.5-liter V-6 that is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option. The sporty Type S model is powered by a 355-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 and comes standard with all-wheel drive. Our test drive of an all-wheel-drive Advance model with the standard powertrain revealed surprisingly nimble handling and perky acceleration.
When we sampled the Type S, we praised it for the same agile feeling on the road and appreciated the extra power, but wondered if that model is worthy of its Type S badging. The Type S is measurably quicker than the standard model; at our test track, it reached 60 mph in only 5.5 seconds, while the less powerful variant required 6.4 seconds.
The base MDX boasts EPA fuel-economy ratings of 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, while the Type S is rated for 17 mpg city and 21 mpg highway. On our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, our all-wheel-drive A-Spec test vehicle delivered a disappointing 22 mpg. The Type S model did slightly better and returned a 23-mpg result. For more information about the MDX’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.
Advanced Technology of the 2024 Acura MDX
The 2024 Acura MDX is not only a showcase of luxury and performance but also a hub of advanced technology. At the heart of the vehicle is the Acura Precision Cockpit, which seamlessly integrates digital instrumentation with an intuitive infotainment system. The available 12.3-inch HD center display provides access to navigation, entertainment, and connectivity features, all within easy reach of the driver.
Acura’s commitment to safety is reflected in the comprehensive suite of driver-assistive and safety technologies found in the MDX. From adaptive cruise control to lane-keeping assist and collision mitigation braking, the vehicle offers peace of mind through its array of advanced safety features. Furthermore, innovative connectivity features such as wireless charging and Apple CarPlay® integration ensure that drivers remain seamlessly connected while on the go.
The 2024 Acura MDX raises the bar for infotainment and connectivity, offering a host of features designed to elevate the driving experience. The available ELS STUDIO 3D® premium audio system delivers immersive sound quality, creating a captivating listening experience for all occupants. The intuitive True Touchpad Interface™ allows for effortless control of the infotainment system, providing a seamless and intuitive user experience.
Connectivity is at the forefront of the MDX’s design, with features such as Bluetooth® streaming, USB charging ports, and available Wi-Fi hotspot capability keeping passengers seamlessly connected throughout their journey. Whether it’s streaming music, accessing navigation services, or staying in touch with loved ones, the Acura MDX ensures that connectivity remains at the fingertips of its occupants.
The 2024 MDX features a large 12.3-inch infotainment display with a center-console-mounted touchpad controller, which, we’re sorry to report, is somewhat frustrating to use. A 12.3-inch digital reconfigurable gauge display is also standard, as are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, in-dash navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a wireless smartphone charging pad. An ELS Studio stereo system is included on the Technology trim, while the A-Spec and Advanced models get a 16-speaker ELS Studio 3D setup.
Safety of the 2024 Acura MDX
Acura has been adding more and more standard driver-assistance tech to its cars, and the MDX provides several desirable features. For more information about the MDX’s crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:
- Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
- Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
- Standard adaptive cruise control
The MDX comes with a range of innovative safety and driver-assistive technologies, both standard and available, that enhance driver awareness, prevent collisions, and reduce the impact severity.* These features are standard on all packages and include: Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow, Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Pedestrian Detection, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Traffic Jam Assist.
Alongside AcuraWatch, additional driver-assistive technologies are available to enhance overall driver awareness from all sides of the vehicle, including Surround-View Camera*, Blind Spot Information System*, Rear Cross Traffic Monitor*, and Low-Speed Braking Control*.

Type S Advance
As driving enthusiasts, we are most intrigued by the Type S for its performance aspirations. But for buyers looking for a well-equipped luxury crossover without the sporty flair, we recommend the Technology trim, which includes niceties such as leather upholstery with contrast stitching, adjustable interior ambient lighting, an ELS Studio stereo system with 12 speakers, and low-speed front and rear automated emergency braking.
