Unveiling the Future: Lamborghini’s Upcoming Supercar to Showcase Hybrid Battery Technology
The upcoming supercar, set for a late 2024 release, will feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a strong emphasis on its hybrid battery technology. While the Huracán has traditionally shared similarities with Audi’s R8 supercar, the successor to the Huracán is expected to draw inspiration from the Revuelto, incorporating its V-12 supercar’s carbon fiber tub. This move aligns with Audi’s plans to introduce an electric supercar, presumably the next iteration of the R8. Lamborghini has confirmed that the Huracán successor will utilize the Revuelto’s 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, a bespoke Lamborghini design that integrates an electric motor. It is likely that the Huracán successor will follow suit.
Reports suggest that the Huracán successor may forego the current V-10 engine in favor of a V-8 powerplant for its internal combustion component within the plug-in hybrid powertrain. Specifically, the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine found in the Urus is a strong contender. Lamborghini plans to use this V-8 engine in its plug-in hybrid Urus, expected to arrive in the first half of 2024. The engine sound captured in the prototype video closely resembles that of the Urus’ V-8.
Last December, Lamborghini electric unveiled the Huracán Sterrato, which serves as the final version of the Huracán and also as the last regular production model powered solely by a combustion engine. By the end of 2024, all regular production Lamborghinis will transition to EVs. However, automaker may continue to offer limited-edition, low-volume models solely powered by combustion engines potentially for track use similar to 2020 Essenza SCV12.
