Overview 2024 Toyota Sequoia
In a segment crowded with large SUVs powered by V-8 engines, the Sequoia stands out for its standard V-6 hybrid powertrain. This system promises to save fuel without compromising performance. The Sequoia shares its 437-hp iForce MAX powertrain with the Tundra Hybrid pickup truck, along with the rest of its underpinnings. This powertrain is strong enough for towing and hauling. The cabin is well-equipped with all the expected tech features, and the rear seats offer enough space for children to be comfortable.
However, seating adults in the third row is a different story, as it is cramped. Additionally, cargo space behind the third row is limited, and dropping the rear seats to accommodate more items is hindered by an uneven load floor with a high lift-over height. In comparison, rivals such as the Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition offer more practicality and versatility. However, if you are specifically seeking a large SUV with hybrid power, the Sequoia is a good—and only—choice.
The 2024 lineup introduces the Limited Nightshade model, which features unique 20-inch TRD wheels painted in a matte black finish, complementing other blacked-out exterior appearance elements. Additionally, Platinum trims now offer the TRD Off-Road package, previously available only for the Limited model. This package includes an off-road suspension system with Bilstein shocks, a skid plate, an electronically controlled locking rear differential, off-road driving modes, a crawl control system, a hill-descent control function, and a few specific appearance items. Limited models equipped with the TRD Off-Road package also come with a blacked-out exterior appearance.
Design of the 2024 Toyota Sequoia
The 2024 Toyota Sequoia boasts a bold and rugged exterior design that sets it apart from other SUVs in its class. Its muscular body lines and aggressive front grille give it a commanding presence on the road. The Sequoia features LED headlights and taillights, providing enhanced visibility and a modern look. With its large dimensions, the Sequoia offers ample space for passengers and cargo, making it ideal for family trips or outdoor adventures.
Inside the cabin, the Sequoia offers a refined and luxurious interior. The seats are comfortable and supportive, with available leather upholstery for added elegance. The dashboard is well-designed and intuitive, featuring a user-friendly infotainment system with a large touchscreen display. The Sequoia also offers plenty of storage compartments and cupholders throughout the cabin, ensuring that you can keep your belongings organized during long journeys.
Toyota Sequoia has dimensions of 5,286 x 2,022 x 1,974 (mm), corresponding to length x width x height. Compared to the Lexus LX 600, Toyota’s model is 186 mm longer, 32 mm wider and 109 mm higher.
The wheelbase of Toyota Sequoia reaches 3,099 mm. Sequoia uses the same chassis as the Tundra, Land Cruiser and Lexus LX models with the characteristics of promoting good power on many types of terrain.
In terms of design, the front of the Toyota Sequoia has many similarities with its “brother” Tundra when using a large grille, combined with T-shaped headlights. Columns A, B and C are covered with black paint. . The rear taillight cluster is placed horizontally combined with large Sequoia lettering. Customers have many choices in wheel sizes, from 18 to 22 inches.

Interior Comfort of the 2024 Toyota Sequoia
The new generation of the Sequoia maintains its spacious interior, featuring a standard third row of seats. The standard configuration includes a second-row bench that accommodates eight passengers, although optional second-row captain’s chairs reduce the seating capacity to seven. Both the rear rows have limited headroom, especially when equipped with the optional panoramic sunroof.
With a wide range of trim levels available, the interior appointments vary from simple to luxurious, offering options such as cloth and leather upholstery, as well as different levels of wood and chrome trim as you move up the price range. Higher trim levels provide additional features like heated and cooled second-row seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a premium stereo system.
However, compared to its rivals, the Sequoia’s cargo area is less accommodating. When the rear seat is in use, there is only 12 cubic feet of cargo space available. Folding down the third row does not result in a flat load floor.
Performance of the 2024 Toyota Sequoia
Under the hood, the 2024 Toyota Sequoia is powered by a robust 5.7-liter V8 engine that delivers impressive performance. With 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque, the Sequoia accelerates effortlessly and provides ample power for towing and hauling. Whether you’re driving on the highway or navigating off-road terrain, the Sequoia offers a smooth and responsive ride.
The Sequoia comes equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission that shifts seamlessly, ensuring optimal performance at all times. Additionally, the vehicle features an available Multi-Mode 4WD system, which allows you to switch between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive depending on road conditions. This feature enhances the SUV’s off-road capabilities and provides maximum traction on slippery or uneven surfaces.
The Sequoia comes with the iForce MAX hybrid powertrain as standard, which is also available as an option in the Tundra pickup. This powertrain consists of a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 engine and an electric motor, producing a total output of 437 hp and 583 pound-feet of torque. The Sequoia SUV shares the Tundra’s 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with the option of four-wheel drive on most models, and it comes as standard on the off-road-focused TRD Pro model.
During our test of the four-wheel-drive Sequoia Capstone, it accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds and completed a quarter-mile in 14.3 seconds at 94 mph. This is faster than the last GMC Yukon Denali we tested, but slightly slower than the Ford Expedition Timberline. The TRD Pro variant also includes off-road features such as upgraded Fox dampers, a front skid plate, a locking rear differential, and forged 18-inch wheels with 33-inch tires.
Our initial test drive revealed that the Sequoia offers a comfortable ride and a quiet cabin. However, we found its on-road driving behavior to be less satisfactory. Its wide stance makes it difficult to position in a lane, a problem we have encountered with other large SUVs as well. Additionally, the steering effort feels light, which does not aid in accurate control. The brake pedal also has an oddly soft feel.
Technology of the 2024 Toyota Sequoia
The 2024 Toyota Sequoia offers an array of advanced technology features designed to enhance your driving experience. The vehicle comes standard with an infotainment system that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, allowing you to seamlessly connect your smartphone to access your favorite apps, music, and navigation.
The Sequoia also offers an available JBL premium audio system, delivering crystal-clear sound throughout the cabin. With its multiple speakers strategically placed around the interior, you can enjoy an immersive audio experience on your daily commute or road trips.
For added convenience, the Sequoia features available wireless charging, allowing you to charge your compatible devices without the hassle of cables. Additionally, the vehicle offers multiple USB ports throughout the cabin, ensuring that all passengers can stay connected and charged while on the go.
The outdated touchscreen setup of the old Sequoia has been replaced with the large 14.0-inch touchscreen from the Tundra. This screen is included in all models except the base SR5 and features Toyota’s latest infotainment software. The software provides a wide range of smartphone mirroring and connectivity options, including a Wi-Fi hotspot and various music streaming choices.
Safety of the 2024 Toyota Sequoia
When it comes to safety, the 2024 Toyota Sequoia excels with its comprehensive suite of advanced safety features. The vehicle comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS-P), which includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, dynamic radar cruise control, and automatic high beams.
The Sequoia also offers available blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, providing an extra layer of awareness when changing lanes or backing out of parking spaces. Additionally, the vehicle features a backup camera as standard equipment, making parking and maneuvering in tight spaces much easier.
To ensure the safety of passengers during off-road adventures or challenging driving conditions, the Sequoia is equipped with a comprehensive set of off-road features. These include active traction control, downhill assist control, and hill start assist control. These features work together to provide maximum stability and control when driving on uneven or slippery terrain.
All of the driver-assistance features available in the Sequoia are included as standard on all models. Key safety features include:
- Standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
- Standard lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
- Standard adaptive cruise control
Fuel Efficiency of the 2024 Toyota Sequoia
Given its size and power, it’s understandable to have concerns about fuel efficiency when considering the 2024 Toyota Sequoia. While the Sequoia’s V8 engine provides impressive performance, it also offers surprising efficiency for its class.
The EPA estimates that the 2024 Toyota Sequoia achieves approximately 13 MPG in city driving and 17 MPG on the highway. These numbers are competitive within its class and reflect Toyota’s commitment to improving fuel efficiency without compromising performance.
Additionally, the Sequoia features an ECO mode that optimizes throttle response and adjusts shift points to help maximize fuel economy when driving in normal conditions. This feature allows you to strike a balance between power and efficiency, ensuring that you get the most out of each gallon of fuel.
The new Sequoia’s hybrid configuration brings a notable improvement in fuel efficiency compared to the previous model. Rear-wheel-drive models have an EPA rating of 21 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined. Opting for four-wheel drive slightly reduces these figures to 19 mpg in the city, 22 mpg on the highway, and 20 mpg combined. During our real-world highway fuel economy test at a speed of 75 mph, our Capstone test vehicle achieved only 19 mpg. For more detailed information regarding the Sequoia’s fuel economy, please refer to the EPA’s website.
