Although the 2024 Cadillac CT5 is built on the same platform as the CT5-V Blackwing (reviewed separately), the entry-level models lack the driving excitement that we appreciate in the flagship performance model. It’s been four years since the sedan’s debut, and we’re still unsure why Cadillac limited the potential of the platform in the lower trims. While every CT5 has a bold and charismatic exterior, achieving the same level of performance requires a significant additional investment in the twin-turbo V-6 CT5-V, which is the second-best performer after the Blackwing.
The rest of the CT5 lineup focuses more on comfort than engaging driving dynamics, and it doesn’t score very high in terms of luxury either. Rivals such as the BMW 3-series, the Mercedes-Benz C-class, and the Genesis G70 are more inviting and enjoyable to drive than the standard non-V CT5s. However, Cadillac does lead in terms of technology, offering a hands-free driving system that its competitors don’t have (yet).
But if you’re looking for speed, energy, and dynamic performance, “V” is the letter to remember.
There are two minor changes for the CT5. First, there is a new optional color called Midnight Sky Metallic. Second, the Onyx Package, which adds dark accents and wheels, will now include a black spoiler. In celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the V sub-brand, the 2024 CT5-V receives more attention. Four new colors have been added to the exterior palette: Coastal Blue Metallic, Cyber Yellow Metallic, and the limited-edition Black Diamond Tricoat and Velocity Red.
