Overview 2024 Polestar 2
It wears the sophisticated appearance of a luxury sedan, such as the Volvo S60, but the all-electric Polestar 2 hatchback is designed for a world without gas. Volvo’s EV subsidiary, Polestar, has given the 2 a good balance of range and horsepower for its base trim level. The base rear-drive Polestar 2 has 295 horsepower with a claimed 320 miles of range. Two all-wheel-drive Polestar 2 hatchbacks are available, one with 416 horsepower and the enthusiast-minded Performance Pack model with 449 horsepower.
Both have a manufacturer-claimed 276 miles of range. The pricing of the Polestar 2 starts well above that of the base Tesla Model 3, but at least it offers more range than Elon’s car. Another advantage the Polestar has over the Tesla is a more traditional cockpit, complete with a normal instrument cluster and software backed by Google’s Android. While the Polestar 2 has consistently improved its features, range, and horsepower each model year, it needs to keep growing even stronger to be competitive against other emerging electric cars, such as the BMW i4 and Hyundai Ioniq 6.
Polestar has enhanced its all-electric 2 for 2024 with more range, thanks to a larger battery and updated hardware. The previous single-motor front-wheel-drive Polestar 2 is now rear-wheel drive and gets a claimed additional 30 miles of range for a total of 300. Dual-motor Polestar 2 models now boast 270 miles of claimed range, an increase of 10 miles from last year. Horsepower has increased across all levels due to upgraded motors.
The single-motor Polestar 2 now offers 295 horsepower (up from 231) and the dual-motor version is now up to 416 horsepower (from 408). Polestar has also adjusted the torque ratio, giving the rear motor priority for output. The 20-inch forged wheels that come with the Performance Pack have been updated, and Polestar now offers Michelin all-season tires as an option for its 19-inch wheels. The larger battery now supports maximum DC-fast-charging speeds of up to 205 kW.

The car captivates customers at first sight with its unique herringbone-shaped Thor Hummer navigation lights and sexy Pixel LED “eyes”. Evenly arranged squares are still the main motif. With the quite simple design of the grille and the neat, decisive shape of the car’s air intake and front bumper, it helps create the slimmest steering wheel, with details minimized.
Very thin and delicate strokes move towards the windshield on the hood and the cross-shaped logo on the hood. 288 LED bulbs make up the beautiful C-shaped taillight cluster. Performance and Driving Dynamics of the 2024 Polestar 2
Equipped with dual electric motors and all-wheel drive, the 2024 Polestar 2 delivers exhilarating performance while maintaining exceptional energy efficiency. Its instant torque and responsive acceleration redefine the driving experience, propelling the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in just over 4 seconds. Furthermore, the precise handling and adaptive suspension system ensure a smooth and dynamic ride, making every journey in the Polestar 2 truly exhilarating.
The Polestar 2 powertrain starts with a single motor that delivers 295 horsepower and 361 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. The motors are doubled for all-wheel-drive models, with a combined output of 416 horsepower and 546 pound-feet of torque. An available Performance Pack exists for thrill-seekers, with 449 peak horsepower for maximum acceleration. We haven’t tested a 2024 Polestar 2 with these updated motors yet, but Polestar says the 2 will hit 60 mph in 5.9 seconds with the single motor onboard and in just 4.1 seconds with the dual-motor setup.
The Performance model also comes equipped with 20-inch wheels and summer tires, stiffer suspension components, adjustable Öhlins dampers, and upgraded Brembo front brakes. Polestar also provides three levels of regenerative braking, with the strongest capable of bringing the car to a complete stop without you touching the brake. While the aforementioned Performance Pack caters to the enthusiast crowd, we’re convinced the 2 rides better on the base suspension.
Advanced Technology of the 2024 Polestar 2
At the heart of the 2024 Polestar 2 lies an array of advanced technologies that elevate both convenience and safety. The intuitive infotainment system features a large touchscreen display with seamless smartphone integration, while the sophisticated driver-assistance systems provide enhanced security and peace of mind. Additionally, the vehicle’s over-the-air update capability ensures that it remains at the forefront of technological innovation throughout its lifespan.
Inside, the driver is greeted with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a centrally located, 11.2-inch touchscreen reminiscent of an iPad in portrait orientation. This screen operates the Google Android Automotive OS infotainment system and is divided into four squares, each dedicated to a different category of apps such as navigation, phone, or audio. Polestar has organized similar apps into specific corners of the screen in order to make it easier for users to find what they need and minimize distractions.
Notably, the system integrates Google Maps as the navigation system and provides useful EV-specific information to the driver, including the locations of nearby charging stations and estimated charging times. Additional features include two USB ports in the front and two in the rear, standard satellite radio, and sound provided by Harman/Kardon.
Range and Charging Infrastructure of the 2024 Polestar 2
One of the key considerations for potential EV owners is the vehicle’s range and charging capabilities. The 2024 Polestar 2 offers an impressive range on a single charge, enabling drivers to embark on extended journeys with confidence. Moreover, with access to a rapidly expanding network of fast-charging stations, recharging the Polestar 2 is convenient and efficient, further enhancing its practicality as a daily driver and long-distance travel companion.
Like the gas-powered Volvo XC40 crossover, the Polestar 2 rides on the Swedish brand’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA). However, the electrified version of the platform accommodates a 75.0 kWh lithium-ion battery for all-wheel drive models and a larger 79.0 kWh battery for rear-drive single-motor cars. The electrical system supports fast charging up to 205 kilowatts with the larger battery, but Polestar claims the 75.0 kWh battery can be recharged from dead to 80 percent in 40 minutes.
The single-motor model has an estimated range of 320 miles when using 19-inch wheels; however, that drops to 307 miles when using 20-inch wheels. The dual-motor Polestar 2 is rated at 276 miles when equipped with 19-inch wheels and 266 miles with 20-inch wheels. The Polestar 2 dual-motor Performance has an EPA-estimated driving range of 247 miles. In our test, the last Polestar 2 we tested achieved 190 miles of range on our 75-mph real-world highway route, which aligned with the Audi e-tron luxury SUV but trailed the Tesla Model 3 Long Range sedan, which managed 230 miles.
Just like the overall driving range, the 2024 Polestar 2’s EPA-estimated MPGe ratings vary depending on equipment. The single-motor Polestar 2 gets 115 MPGe combined, 124 city, and 106 highway, according to the EPA. The Dual Motor is only slightly worse, getting 106 combined, 112 city, and 100 highway MPGe, respectively. For more information about the Polestar 2’s efficiency and range, visit the EPA’s website.
Safety of the 2024 Polestar 2
The Polestar 2 comes equipped with several driver-assistance and safety features, which should provide added peace of mind. Pricing and Ownership Experience of the 2024 Polestar 2

The brand’s emphasis on sustainability also extends to its ownership model, with initiatives that promote responsible vehicle usage and end-of-life recycling, ensuring that every aspect of owning a Polestar contributes to a more sustainable future.
Long Range RWD
|
$51,300 |
Long Range AWD | $56,700 |
Long Range with Performance Pack | $64,400 |
The rear-wheel-drive single-motor Polestar 2 has plenty of range to forgo nightly charging, and its 295 horsepower makes it quick on its feet. While the Performance Pack feeds the enthusiast flame, it comes at the cost of overall range, so rather than racing to the next recharge, we’d argue that a lower price and better range are worth the gap in maximum Polestar 2 performance.
