The recall includes 531 KM-generation Sportage models produced between 2007 and 2009, as well as 12,050 SL-generation Sportage models produced between 2014 and 2015.

The issue stems from a hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU) that may short circuit if exposed to moisture. Even when the vehicle is switched off, this defect could result in a fire in the engine compartment. Kia Australia has advised affected owners to contact their local dealership for further assistance.
