Overview 2024 BMW Z4
As the more lighthearted counterpart to the Toyota Supra, the 2024 BMW Z4 offers similar performance with a convertible twist. This two-seat Bimmer roadster shares its platform with the renowned Toyota sports car but possesses its own unique characteristics. It is powered by a choice of turbocharged BMW engines: either a 255-hp inline-four or a 382-hp inline-six, just like the Supra. Additionally, it is only available with rear-wheel drive. While the eight-speed automatic transmission is standard, a six-speed manual is optional for six-cylinder Z4 models.
The automatic transmission performs admirably, swiftly shifting gears without compromising the Z4’s sporty driving experience. However, for maximum driver engagement, we prefer the manual option. Although it may not be as focused on providing back-road thrills as the Supra or competitors like the Porsche 718 Boxster, the BMW Z4 offers an upscale cabin, a comfortable ride, and a surprisingly spacious trunk. It is a sporty convertible that is equally content with everyday tasks.
If you were hoping for the addition of a six-speed manual transmission to the Z4 lineup, similar to its mechanical twin, the Toyota Supra, we have good news: the M40i now offers the option for a manual transmission.
This option will come at an additional cost, adding a few thousand dollars to the overall price. However, selecting the manual transmission also includes performance-enhancing components, such as stiffer anti-roll bars and a set of staggered-size wheels and tires. BMW has also made adjustments to the adaptive suspension settings for manual transmission models and claims that the steering has been retuned to enhance road feel.
Exterior Design of the 2024 BMW Z4
The 2024 BMW Z4 boasts a sleek and aggressive design that turns heads wherever it goes. The car’s low-slung stance, long hood, and short overhangs give it a sporty silhouette that exudes confidence. The prominent kidney grille at the front, flanked by LED headlights, adds to its bold appeal. The convertible soft-top roof can be opened or closed in just seconds, enhancing the overall driving experience.
The overall “front” of the Z4 2024 facelift has been redesigned, minimizing the mesh pattern into a traditional honeycomb pattern on the kidney-shaped steering wheel – this detail maintains the original size and shape. The air intakes on both sides of the front bumper are also new, more modern and sporty.
The front light cluster extends to the hip to create an extremely arrogant style, equipped with modern LED bulbs with LED daytime running lights combined with Angel Eyes rings with bold BMW personality.
The side of the car remains almost the same as its predecessor, full of soft aerodynamic “muscular” lines, and the door handles are painted the same body color. Particularly attractive are the blue M Sport wheels and brake calipers hidden inside.
The rear of the car is also not “cheeked” by the German car company. Still plump, adorned with a pair of sporty L-shaped taillights, a trunk lid with an integrated spoiler, an aggressive rear bumper with parallelogram-shaped dual exhaust pipes and a central air splitter.
The upgrades of the 2024 BMW Z4 facelift are mainly for the variant equipped with the sDrive30i engine with standard equipment of the M Sport package (including bodylift and 18-inch wheels), breaking the “privilege” position of the M40i version. established since its launch in 2018.
In addition to standard equipment, customers can spend money to buy the M Shadowline package and 19-inch M wheels painted in matte black to help the car look more “godly”.

Powertrain Performance of the 2024 BMW Z4
Underneath the sculpted hood lies a range of powerful engines that deliver an adrenaline-pumping performance. The base model is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, producing an impressive 255 horsepower. For those seeking even more power, there is an option to upgrade to the M40i variant, which features a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, generating a remarkable 382 horsepower. The Z4’s precise handling and responsive steering make every twist and turn on the road an absolute joy.
The Z4 comes equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard, featuring sport and manual modes. Paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel are also included. This eight-speed automatic is considered one of the best in its class, offering quick responses, snappy shifts, and smooth operation.
The sDrive30i variant is powered by the brand’s impressive turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which delivers ample torque and feels stronger than its 255 horsepower suggests. In our testing, this model accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. While this performance is lively, it is still slightly slower than the 718 Boxster. For those seeking more power, the M40i model features a 382-hp turbocharged inline-six engine. It offers exceptional smoothness, refinement, and ferocity when pushed to its limits. In our testing, this more powerful model achieved a zero-to-60 mph time of just 3.5 seconds.
The M40i can be ordered with a six-speed manual transmission, which brings additional performance enhancements such as stiffer anti-roll bars, a retuned adaptive suspension system, and staggered wheels and tires. While the Z4 is willing to tackle winding roads, it lacks the precise handling of the 718 or the aggressive nature of the Supra.
BMW Z4 2024 exterior paint color
In addition to the available options, the Bavarian car brand continues to add 3 new paint color options including Thundernight, Portimao Blue metallic and Skyscraper Gray metallic, all of which are very eye-catching.
Interior Comfort of the 2024 BMW Z4
Step inside the 2024 BMW Z4, and you’ll be greeted by a cabin that oozes luxury and craftsmanship. The driver-centric cockpit puts all controls within easy reach, ensuring a seamless driving experience. High-quality materials, such as leather upholstery and brushed aluminum accents, adorn the interior, creating an upscale ambiance. The supportive and comfortable seats provide excellent lateral support, keeping you firmly in place during spirited driving.
The cabin design of the new BMW Z4, after 4 years since its launch, still maintains a strong appeal that makes people “lose their rhythm” when they first sit in the cabin. The dashboard is skewed towards the driver’s seat with a small central screen and buttons overwhelming the touch screen, pleasing “keyboard” fans.
The 3-spoke steering wheel has a sporty design, sturdy shape and intuitive button layout. Behind is a beautiful full digital graphic clock cluster.
The seats on the BMW Z4 2024 are extremely delicately crafted with an incredibly optimized fit, and the details are beautifully and meticulously finished. This is easy to see when looking at the backrest which is quilted with extremely “hot” patterns.
Similar to the exterior, the sDrive30i variant is now equipped as standard with the new M Sport interior package including sports seats, M leather steering wheel, M pedals, M driver’s footrest and SensaTec leather dashboard.
Fuel Efficiency of the 2024 BMW Z4
Despite its impressive performance, the Z4 is surprisingly fuel-efficient compared to other sports cars in its class. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the Z4 sDrive30i at 25 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.
The more powerful Z4 M40i, with its higher horsepower, has a slightly lower fuel economy rating of 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. However, during our testing on a 75-mph highway fuel economy route, the M40i model greatly exceeded its rating and achieved an impressive 37 mpg. For more detailed information about the Z4’s fuel economy, you can visit the EPA’s website.

These include multiple airbags strategically placed throughout the cabin, anti-lock braking system (ABS), stability control, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality.
