Overeview 2024 Kia EV9
Going all-electric is no longer limited to sedans, pickups, and small SUVs. The EV9 SUV, a three-row vehicle that is approximately the same size as the current gas-only Telluride, shares its platform with the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 7. The EV9 is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, with the latter equipped with a 379-hp dual-motor powertrain.
Both the AWD and rear-drive Long Range models have a 99.8-kWh battery that provides an EPA-estimated range of 304 miles with the single-motor setup. The standard RWD EV9 has a 76.1-kWh battery that offers an EPA-estimated range of 230 miles. Despite its large size, the EV9 has a towing capacity of 5000 pounds, matching that of the gas-powered Telluride. The inclusion of a usable third row of seats makes the EV9 attractive for growing families. As one of the few three-row EVs on the market, and with a starting price below $60k, it is an excellent choice for those seeking a larger EV that provides a satisfying driving experience.
Exterior Design of the 2024 Kia EV9
The first thing that catches your eye when you see the 2024 Kia EV9 is its futuristic and aerodynamic design. With sleek lines, a sculpted body, and a bold front grille, this electric SUV exudes confidence and style. The EV9’s attention to detail is apparent, from its LED headlights and taillights to its unique charging port placement. The overall design not only enhances the vehicle’s aesthetics but also contributes to its aerodynamic efficiency, resulting in improved range and performance.
In terms of dimensions, the EV9 has almost identical measurements to the Telluride, measuring 5,010 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width and 1,755 mm in height. The vehicle’s wheelbase reaches 3,100 mm.
EV9 dimensions 5,010 x1,980 x1,755
The exterior will also see differences between the regular and “GT-Line” versions, with the latter benefiting from revised front and rear bumpers and a unique digital grille. Windshields are retained on either option. Upgrade the aerodynamics of the wheels with sizes from 19 to 21 inches.
Interior Comfort and Technology of the 2024 Kia EV9
Step inside the 2024 Kia EV9, and you’ll be greeted with a spacious and luxurious cabin that is designed with both driver and passenger comfort in mind. The use of premium materials, such as leather upholstery and wood trim, adds to the overall upscale feel of the interior. The EV9 boasts ample legroom and headroom for both front and rear occupants, ensuring a comfortable ride for everyone.
In terms of technology, the EV9 is packed with innovative features. The centerpiece of the interior is a large touchscreen display that controls various vehicle functions, including navigation, entertainment, and climate control. The EV9 also offers advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking, ensuring a safe and convenient driving experience.
The EV9 is available in either six- or seven-passenger versions, depending on whether the second row features captain’s chairs or a bench. On the upper trim levels of the EV9, the third row can be power folded. In the prototype we drove, the front seats were firmly cushioned, but some of the synthetic upholstery felt a bit cheap. Hopefully, this won’t be the case for U.S.-spec models. The second-row captain’s chairs in the EV9 feel similar to the front seats and offer heating, ventilation, and massaging. In the back, the third row comfortably accommodates adults, although some concessions from those in the second row are needed to provide enough legroom. The EV9’s rear cargo space is 20 cubic feet, almost as much as the Telluride, and can reach up to 82 cubic feet when both the second and third rows are folded flat.
Inside the EV9, there are a pair of 12.3-inch screens – one for the gauge cluster and a second one for infotainment. In between them, there is a dedicated HVAC readout. The EV9 does not have physical knobs and its buttons have been reduced compared to other Kias currently available for sale. It only has a few key HVAC controls and a volume knob, along with touch-sensitive controls integrated into the dashboard to navigate different menus. The EV9 features a completely new generation of infotainment, but the specifics of it are still undisclosed until the unveiling of the new three-row model.
The EV9 is equipped with advanced technology, especially a highway driving assistance system with Level 3 self-driving capabilities (under permitted conditions). This system uses 15 sensors to scan and detect objects within a 360-degree field of view, helping to prevent possible accidents.
The Kia EV9 also features Kia Connect Store, allowing customers to purchase digital features and services on demand. This allows users to upgrade vehicle features via over-the-air (OTA) updates at any time.
The Kia EV9 is also equipped with Kia’s Digital Key 2, which uses Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) technology, allowing users to unlock and start the vehicle with their smartphone, even when the key is locked. kept in a pocket or bag.
Performance and Range of the 2024 Kia EV9
The 2024 Kia EV9 is powered by a robust electric motor that delivers impressive performance. With instant torque and smooth acceleration, the EV9 offers a thrilling driving experience. This electric SUV can go from 0 to 60 mph in just under six seconds, making it a formidable contender in its class.
When it comes to range, the EV9 doesn’t disappoint. With a large battery pack, this Kia model offers an estimated range of over 300 miles on a single charge. This means that drivers can confidently embark on long journeys without worrying about running out of battery power. Additionally, the EV9 supports fast-charging capabilities, allowing for quick top-ups at compatible charging stations.
The EV9 lineup begins with the rear-wheel-drive Light trim, which features a single rear-mounted electric motor that produces 215 horsepower. The Light Long Range version is also rear-drive, but despite having a larger battery, its peak power drops to 201 horsepower. All-wheel-drive models have a dual-motor setup with a combined 379 horsepower, and an available Boost mode increases the peak torque output and provides quicker acceleration. During testing, the AWD EV9 achieved 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds, making it the preferred choice for those who want the quick acceleration that EVs are known for.
It takes the gas-powered Telluride two seconds longer to reach 60 mph. A performance-oriented GT model will join the lineup for the 2025 model year and could offer up to 576 horsepower. We found the EV9 to be enjoyable to drive and visually appealing. On the highway, the EV9 has a comfortably smooth ride, and the defeatable one-pedal feature allows for a seamless stop.
The entry-level Light model comes with a 76.1-kWh battery pack, offering an EPA-estimated driving range of 230 miles. The Light Long Range model and the e-AWD versions are equipped with a larger 99.8-kWh pack. The Light Long Range model is rated by the EPA for up to 304 miles of driving per charge, while the Wind e-AWD and Land e-AWD models are rated at 280 miles.
Opting for the top-spec GT-line trim reduces the estimated range to 270 miles per charge. In our 75-mph highway range test, the EV9 GT-Line drove 240 miles, just shy of its 270-mile estimate. All EV9 models utilize Kia’s 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling fast charging through DC fast-chargers. The EV9’s 11-kW on-board charger is comparable to that of its competitors, but its maximum DC-fast-charging speed of 230 kilowatts is noted to add 100 miles of driving range in just 13 minutes, with an average charging speed of 139 kilowatts between a 10 and 90 percent state of charge. This rate is among the highest averages we have seen in any EVs we have tested.
