Introduction to the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado
Although not significant, there are a few updates for the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Chevy has introduced two new metallic paint options: Lakeshore Blue and Slate Gray. Silverados equipped with the 420-hp 6.2-liter V-8 now feature an active exhaust, which enhances the truck’s sound in sport mode. The Midnight Edition is now available on the High Country trim, and the Blackout appearance package can now be added to Custom, Custom Trail Boss, RST, and LT Trail Boss models. OnStar, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are now standard on all Silverados, including the base Work Truck. Lastly, Chevy has renamed its 310-hp 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine as “TurboMax.”
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado is the latest iteration of the popular full-size pickup truck. Known for its ruggedness, versatility, and dependability, the Silverado has been a staple in the truck market for decades. The 2024 model brings several updates and enhancements, making it even more appealing to truck enthusiasts.
Exterior Design and Styling of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado
The exterior design of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado exudes strength and dominance. With its bold grille, muscular body lines, and sleek LED headlights, the Silverado stands out on the road. The truck is available in various trims and bed lengths, allowing buyers to choose the one that suits their needs and preferences.
The front end of the 2024 model year has a different overall appearance, with a chiseled and muscular look. It also includes updated fascia, grille, and new C-shaped signature lighting. The bed of the Chevy Silverado 2500 HD is designed for easy access and use, making it a crucial component of the truck.
Interior Comfort and Technology of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado
Step inside the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado, and you’ll find a spacious and well-designed cabin. The seats are comfortable and supportive, making long drives a breeze. The interior materials are of high quality, giving the truck a premium feel. The Silverado also comes equipped with the latest technology features, including a touchscreen infotainment system, smartphone integration, advanced safety systems, and more.
From the stripped-down Work Truck model to the decked-out High Country, the Silverado can be configured in many ways. Base models offer only the essentials, including manually adjustable front seats, manual locks and windows, and vinyl seats. However, starting with the LT trim, the cabin becomes significantly more stylish with a handsome dashboard design featuring a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a large center touchscreen.
The High Country’s interior looks particularly attractive with its leather upholstery and open-pore wood trim. While the crew cab has a spacious rear seat with generous headroom, we found the cushions to be uncomfortable. Nevertheless, this is a practical hauler that features clever storage cubbies throughout the cabin. While the Chevy lacks the carbon-fiber-reinforced cargo bed available on the half-ton Sierra, it now offers a similar multifunction tailgate called Multi-Flex. Additionally, the Chevy’s range of different bed lengths will undoubtedly satisfy traditionalists.
Performance and Capability of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado
One of the key reasons why people choose a pickup truck is for its performance and capability, and the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado does not disappoint. It is available with multiple engine options, including a powerful V8 that delivers impressive towing and hauling capabilities. The Silverado also offers excellent off-road capabilities, thanks to its robust suspension system and available four-wheel drive.
A variety of engines, including a turbocharged four-cylinder, a pair of V-8s, and a Duramax diesel 3.0-liter inline-six, means there is a powertrain option for any job or adventure with the Silverado 1500. Of the two eight-cylinder engines, the 6.2-liter is the quickest, offering 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, propelling the Silverado High Country we tested to 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds.
In comparison, the smaller 5.3-liter engine with 355 horsepower took 6.1 seconds. The turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine boasts 420 pound-feet of torque. The diesel-powered Silverado we tested had the slowest acceleration, but we were impressed by the engine’s smooth and quiet operation. The turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six Duramax engine now has 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. In our experience, every version of the Silverado felt smaller than its size suggests. The truck’s handling is surprisingly agile, and the brake pedal provides firm and reassuring feedback. Those seeking a more rugged half-ton Silverado will appreciate the Trail Boss model, which features a 2.0-inch lift, gnarly tires, and other upgrades that make off-roading easier and more enjoyable. The new ZR2 is the most serious off-roader, but we will review it separately.
Fuel Efficiency of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado
While trucks are not typically known for their fuel efficiency, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado strives to improve in this area. The truck features advanced engine technologies and aerodynamic enhancements that help optimize fuel consumption. Additionally, Chevy offers hybrid and diesel engine options for those seeking even better fuel economy.
Don’t expect the Silverado 1500 to save you money at the fuel pump, but some of its various powertrain options are more efficient than others. The optional diesel is the most economical, with EPA estimates of up to 23 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. With all-wheel drive, its highway rating drops down to 26 mpg, which we matched on our 75-mph fuel-economy route. Meanwhile, the gas-fed turbo-four with all-wheel drive is rated at up to 20 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.
The thriftiest 5.3-liter V-8, all-wheel-drive powertrain is rated up to 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway; our real-world testing revealed that it was actually more efficient than the Silverado’s smallest engine, the turbocharged four-cylinder: in our testing, the V-8 achieved 21 mpg whereas the turbo-four returned 18 mpg. The 6.2-liter V-8 has city/highway estimates of up to 16/21 mpg, and on our real-world highway test, it also proved impressively easy on fuel compared with the turbo-four by delivering 19 mpg. Safety Features of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado
Safety is always a top priority when it comes to choosing a vehicle, and the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado has you covered. It comes equipped with a range of advanced safety features, including forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rearview camera, and more. These features help keep you and your passengers safe on the road.
Every Silverado comes with an impressive array of standard driver-assistance technology and can be equipped with various towing assists that facilitate trailer pulling and hooking up. The top-tier High Country model is even capable of being fitted with Super Cruise, Chevy’s hands-free driving technology, which the company claims works even while towing a trailer. For more information regarding the Silverado’s crash-test results, please visit the websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Key safety features include: Standard forward collision warning and automated emergency braking, standard blind
- Spot monitoring and rear cross
- Traffic alert, and standard lane departure warning and lane
- Keeping assist.
Pricing and Trim Options of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado is available in various trim levels, each offering different features and specifications. From the base model to the fully-loaded option, there is a Silverado for every budget and preference. Pricing for the 2024 Silverado starts at [insert starting price], making it an attractive option in its segment.
While the base-level Work Truck and Custom trims are well-suited for tradespeople and those on a tighter budget, the LT model is where the fancier interior comes into play; we believe it is the one to choose. We would also configure our Silverado with the crew cab and standard-length bed to maximize cargo and passenger space. Additionally, we would opt for the 5.3-liter V-8 instead of the optional diesel engine because it is more affordable and provides quicker performance. Unlike the standard turbo-four, the V-8 also allows us to select the Z71 Off-Road package, which includes a range of upgraded hardware that enhances off-road capabilities and makes driving in dirt and mud more enjoyable.
Competitor Comparison of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado
To provide a complete picture of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado, we compared it to some of its main competitors in the market. The Silverado stands out with its powerful engine options, towing capacity, and overall ruggedness. However, it faces tough competition from other popular trucks like the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500. Each truck has its own strengths and weaknesses, so it’s important to consider your specific needs when making a decision.
However, it’s important to note that the Silverado’s ride can be a bit rough at times. Inside, the Silverado 1500 offers a large touchscreen, but it falls short when it comes to luxury compared to the Ram 1500. In terms of towing capacity, the Silverado 1500 outperforms the equivalent Ram 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 by offering tons of capability. For those who enjoy off-roading in mud, there’s the Silverado 1500 ZR2 (which will be reviewed separately). However, it’s worth mentioning that it doesn’t offer the same level of wilderness exploration as more extreme off-roaders like the Ram TRX and Ford F-150 Raptor.
Overeview of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado

With its robust performance, spacious interior, advanced safety features, and competitive pricing, it offers great value for money. The capacity for hard work is in the Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup’s blood. It has been a reliable companion on ranches, construction sites, and for hauling boats to lake houses for generations. And that hasn’t changed today. The current production Silverado 1500 comes with a variety of powertrain options to handle both work and play. These options include a turbo four-cylinder, two V-8s, and a Duramax diesel. One of the standout features is the smoothness of the larger gas V-8, which has become a staple.
