Overview Porsche 718 Boxster Boxster
The Porsche 718 Boxster has long been renowned for its exceptional performance and timeless design. With the 2024 model, Porsche has taken this iconic sports car to new heights. The Boxster boasts a mid-engine layout, providing optimal weight distribution and enhancing its overall handling capabilities. Its sleek lines and aggressive stance make it an eye-catching presence on the road.
Originally intended as an appetizer in the lineup, the Porsche 718 Boxster—and its coupe counterpart, the 718 Cayman—has established itself as a mid-engined performer that deserves to be showcased alongside the beloved 911. Even with the base turbo four-cylinder engine, the Boxster is a masterpiece of a sports car, offering precise handling and a superbly balanced chassis.
Lowering the convertible top allows you to savor the exhaust note and bask in the sun while effortlessly navigating winding roads. While the Boxster is also comfortable cruising on the highway or running errands, it may not be the most practical vehicle due to its limited cargo space and interior room. Despite these compromises, we find ourselves captivated by Porsche’s smallest sports car, and it continues to be a favorite among our staff, earning another 10Best award for 2024.
This year, the Boxster lineup introduces a new Style Edition model. It enhances the base model with features such as 20-inch wheels, hood and door graphics, special floormats with chalk-colored stitching, illuminated door sill plates, and embossed Porsche logos on the headrests. The Style Edition also introduces a new paint color called Ruby Star Neo. On the other end of the 718 spectrum, there is the new Spyder RS. It inherits the 493-hp 4.0-liter flat-six engine from the Cayman GT4 RS. As a result, the regular Spyder model has been discontinued in favor of this more powerful version.
Powertrain Performance and Handling of the 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster
One of the most enticing aspects of the 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster is its exhilarating performance. Powered by a range of impressive engines, including turbocharged four-cylinder options, this sports car offers an extraordinary driving experience. The base model features a 2.0-liter engine delivering 300 horsepower, while the more powerful Boxster S comes with a 2.5-liter engine producing a remarkable 350 horsepower. The top-of-the-line Boxster GTS is equipped with a 2.5-liter engine generating an astounding 365 horsepower.
The driving dynamics of the 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster are nothing short of exceptional. The mid-engine layout provides excellent balance and agility, ensuring precise handling in every turn. The Boxster’s suspension is finely tuned to deliver an engaging driving experience while maintaining comfort on long journeys. With its responsive steering and powerful brakes, this sports car offers an unparalleled level of control and confidence on the road.
The Boxster offers four engines: a 300-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter flat-four, a 350-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four on the S model, a 394-hp 4.0-liter flat-six on the GTS 4.0, and a 493-hp 4.0-liter flat-six on the Spyder RS. Each is paired with a precise, low-effort six-speed manual transmission, but buyers can opt for Porsche’s clairvoyant seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic. The base and S models are great fun and performed well in our testing.
We haven’t had the opportunity to test a U.S.-spec Boxster GTS 4.0 model, but we do have a long-term 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 in our test fleet that shows this model’s performance potential (the two models weigh about the same). The Boxster’s handling and steering prowess inspire our deepest admiration. It feels balanced and stable in corners, and the brilliantly communicative steering reacts quickly and accurately to even small inputs.
The Boxster’s chassis talks to you as if the tire patches have a direct line to your vestibular system, but the ride is comfortable enough for long trips. Extras such as Porsche’s adaptive dampers and an available torque-vectoring rear differential only improve this car’s handling, but even base-spec Boxsters behave precisely the way we want them to.

Interior Comfort of the 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster
Step inside the 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster, and you will be greeted by a luxurious and driver-focused interior. The combination of high-quality materials and ergonomic design creates a comfortable and immersive experience. The seats are supportive and offer excellent adjustability, allowing drivers of all sizes to find their perfect position behind the wheel.
The Boxster’s interior has more plastic than we would expect in a car of this price range, but buyers can upgrade almost every surface with leather for a relatively reasonable price, including the console lid, door-panel trim, and instrument-cluster top. The Boxster’s two dash-mounted cupholders are flimsy and have limited utility, which might reflect a cultural disdain for drinking beverages while driving, as Germans typically don’t have their afternoon coffee while behind the wheel.
If you need a car with ample cabin space to hold your belongings, you should consider other options. This two-seater lacks room and cubby space. However, while neither the Boxster nor the Cayman offer a significant amount of in-cabin storage space, they do provide both front and rear cargo compartments. The back can fit one carry-on suitcase, and the front trunk (frunk) can fit two.
Technology of the 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster
Porsche has also equipped the Boxster with state-of-the-art technology features. The infotainment system is intuitive and user-friendly, providing seamless connectivity and access to various entertainment options. Additionally, the inclusion of advanced driver-assistance systems ensures both safety and convenience.
We would typically complain about having only two USB ports, but considering that this car only has seating for two people, how many more ports do you really need? Additionally, there is a standard CD player for drivers who still enjoy listening to CDs. Buyers also have the option to add navigation and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Porsche now includes Apple CarPlay integration as a standard feature, but unfortunately, Android Auto is still not available.
Exterior Design of the 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster
The 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster is a true head-turner with its captivating exterior design. The sleek lines, muscular curves, and distinctive Porsche styling cues make it instantly recognizable. The retractable soft-top roof adds to the car’s allure, allowing for an open-air driving experience at the touch of a button.
Beyond its aesthetics, the Boxster’s design is also optimized for aerodynamic efficiency. The sculpted bodywork minimizes drag, enhancing both performance and fuel efficiency. Every element of the exterior design serves a purpose, making the 718 Boxster as functional as it is beautiful.
Customization Options of the 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster
Porsche understands that each driver has unique preferences when it comes to their sports car. That’s why they offer an extensive range of customization options for the 2024 Boxster. From exterior paint colors to interior trims and finishes, you can personalize your Boxster to reflect your own style and taste. Porsche also offers various performance upgrades, allowing you to further enhance your driving experience.
Fuel Efficiency of the 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster
The base Boxster, with a turbocharged 2.0-liter flat-four and a six-speed manual transmission, has an EPA rating of 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. Opting for the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic increases fuel efficiency by 1 mpg in each category. The S and GTS models have slightly lower ratings. In our testing, both the base Boxster and the S exceeded their EPA ratings on our 200-mile highway fuel economy route, achieving 33 mpg and 28 mpg, respectively. For more information on the Boxster’s fuel economy, please visit the EPA’s website.
Safety Features of the 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster
Safety is always a top priority for Porsche, and the 2024 Boxster is no exception. Alongside its superior handling capabilities, the Boxster is equipped with an array of advanced safety features. These include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring. With these cutting-edge technologies, drivers can enjoy their exhilarating drive while feeling confident in their safety.
The Boxster may not offer an extensive range of driver-assistance technology, but we are pleased to see that it comes standard with a backup camera and parking sensors. For detailed information on the Boxster’s crash-test results, we recommend visiting the websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Key safety features include:
- Standard front and rear parking sensors
- Optional automated emergency braking
- Optional blind-spot monitoring

As for pricing, it will vary depending on the selected trim level and additional customization options. Potential buyers can expect a starting price around [insert price], with higher trims commanding a premium.
The price range for the 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster starts at $72,050 and can go up to $162,350, depending on the chosen trim level and optional features. For those who are not constrained by budget, the GTS 4.0 model, with its powerful and melodious flat-six engine, is the ideal choice. However, we understand that not everyone can afford to spend $90,000 on a two-seat convertible.
For those on a more modest budget, the S model is recommended. While the available PDK automatic transmission is excellent, this car truly shines with a manual gearbox. We suggest keeping the options to a minimum and selecting only the lowered suspension with adaptive dampers, a limited-slip rear differential, and ventilated seats.
