Overeview of the 2024 BMW 2-Series
BMW is the only automaker that still offers a coupe in the compact luxury car segment. While the latest generation’s styling has divided opinions, the 2-series excels in its handling, steering precision, and powerful brakes, providing an enjoyable driving experience. There are two engine options available: the 230i comes with a 255-hp turbocharged inline-four, which is also used in the Toyota Supra 2.0, while the M240i boasts a turbocharged inline-six that delivers an impressive 382 horsepower.
Unfortunately, a manual transmission option is no longer available, but both powertrains can be paired with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. In addition to its dynamic capabilities, the 2-series offers a premium interior and remains relatively affordable, especially in 230i guise. For those seeking more practicality, BMW also offers a four-door 2-series Gran Coupe. However, it’s important to note that the sedan is built on a different front-wheel-drive platform and hasn’t received the same level of acclaim as the 2-series coupe.
The BMW 2-series underwent a complete overhaul for 2022 and a curved digital gauge cluster was added for 2023. Therefore, the sporty two-door model remains unchanged for 2024.
Exterior Design and Styling of the 2024 BMW 2-Series
The 2024 BMW 2-Series showcases a bold and athletic design that exudes elegance and power. The signature kidney grille has been enlarged for a more imposing presence on the road, while the sleek headlights with LED technology provide excellent visibility. With its sculpted lines and aerodynamic profile, this car is sure to turn heads wherever it goes. The available M Sport package further enhances the sporty aesthetic with unique styling elements and larger alloy wheels.

Interior Comfort and Luxury of the 2024 BMW 2-Series
Step inside the 2024 BMW 2-Series, and you’ll be greeted by a luxurious cabin that combines comfort, sophistication, and cutting-edge technology. The premium materials used throughout the interior create an upscale ambiance, while the well-designed seats offer excellent support for long drives. The driver-centric cockpit puts all controls within easy reach, allowing for a seamless driving experience. Rear passengers will also enjoy ample legroom and headroom, making this car suitable for both daily commutes and extended road trips.
While BMW’s interior design language may not be groundbreaking, it is complemented by the excellent build quality and satisfying ergonomics. The new 2-series follows the company’s familiar styling and layout. Analog gauges are standard, but there is also the option for a fully digital instrument panel measuring 12.3 inches and a head-up display. Our only complaint is that the front seats could offer more support. Additionally, despite the increase in overall length and width, which includes a 2.0-inch longer wheelbase, the coupe’s back seat provides less headroom and legroom compared to its predecessor.
Performance and Handling of the 2024 BMW 2-Series
The 2024 BMW 2-Series is a true driver’s car, offering exhilarating performance and precise handling. Under the hood, you’ll find a range of powerful engine options, including a turbocharged inline-four and a more potent inline-six for higher trims. The engines are paired with a smooth-shifting automatic transmission, delivering seamless acceleration and responsive gear changes. With its sport-tuned suspension and rear-wheel drive setup, the 2-Series offers exceptional agility and cornering prowess, making it a joy to drive on winding roads.
The 230i features a 255-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, while the M240i has a 382-hp turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. Both the 230i and M240i are available with rear- or all-wheel drive, and come with an eight-speed automatic transmission as the only option. During our test of the 230i, it achieved a 0-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds and completed the quarter-mile in 13.7 seconds at 101 mph.
For those seeking maximum performance from the 230i, we recommend selecting the M Sport and Dynamic Handling packages, which include 19-inch wheels with performance tires, a sportier suspension, upgraded brakes, a variable-ratio steering system, and an electronically controlled rear differential. Most of these features, and more, come standard on the M240i. When we tested the M240i, we were impressed by its quick acceleration off the line (0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds) and its refined ride and handling. However, like many of the latest BMW models, we felt that it could benefit from improved steering feedback.
Advanced Safety Features of the 2024 BMW 2-Series
BMW prioritizes safety, and the 2024 2-Series is no exception. This model is equipped with an array of advanced safety features designed to protect both driver and passengers. Lane departure warning, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring are just a few of the available safety technologies that help prevent accidents and mitigate potential risks. Additionally, BMW’s intelligent all-wheel drive system enhances traction and stability in various road conditions.
In addition to a range of standard driver-assistance technologies, such as blind-spot monitoring, every 2-series comes equipped with front and rear parking sensors. It can also be upgraded with a self-parking assist feature that will automatically park the vehicle in parallel or perpendicular spaces. For more information on the crash-test results of the 2-series, please visit the websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Key safety features include:
- Standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking.
- Standard lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist.
- Available adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology.
Cutting-Edge Technology of the 2024 BMW 2-Series
The 2024 BMW 2-Series boasts an impressive suite of cutting-edge technology features that enhance convenience and entertainment on every journey. The iDrive infotainment system takes center stage with its intuitive interface and crisp graphics displayed on a large touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, allowing seamless smartphone integration for hands-free calls, music streaming, and navigation. Optional features include a digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and a premium sound system that delivers concert-like audio quality.
The infotainment system of the 2-series is operated through either a standard 8.8-inch touchscreen or an optional 10.3-inch unit. In addition to steering-wheel controls and voice commands, the interface can be navigated using a rotary controller on the center console, which is surrounded by convenient shortcut buttons. BMW also thoughtfully includes a physical volume knob. Every model comes with a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 10-speaker stereo. Those who desire a more powerful audio system can upgrade to a 14-speaker, 464-watt Harman Kardon setup.
Fuel Efficiency and Customization Options of the 2024 BMW 2-Series
While performance is undoubtedly a priority for many BMW enthusiasts, fuel efficiency is also an important consideration. The 2024 BMW 2-Series strikes a balance between power and efficiency, thanks to its advanced engineering and aerodynamic design. The turbocharged engines feature technologies such as direct injection and auto start-stop for improved fuel economy. Official EPA ratings may vary depending on the engine choice, but overall, the 2-Series offers respectable fuel efficiency for its class.
The rear-wheel drive, four-cylinder 230i is rated at 26 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel drive, six-cylinder M240i is rated at 23 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. During our 75-mph fuel economy test, the rear-wheel drive 230i achieved 38 mpg, surpassing its EPA estimate.
BMW understands that every driver has unique preferences when it comes to personalizing their vehicle. The 2024 2-Series offers a wide range of customization options to suit individual tastes. From exterior paint colors to interior trims and upholstery choices, you can create a car that reflects your style and personality. Additionally, various packages are available to add extra features and enhancements, such as upgraded wheels, enhanced suspension, or even a more aggressive body kit for those seeking a sportier look.
Pricing and Availability of the 2024 BMW 2-Series
The 2024 BMW 2-Series is expected to hit showrooms in [insert month/year]. As for pricing, it will vary depending on the selected trim level and optional features. While BMW vehicles tend to command a premium price tag due to their luxury status and advanced technology, the 2-Series remains relatively affordable compared to some of its higher-end siblings in the lineup.
230i | $39,795 |
230i xDrive | $41,795 |
M240i | $50,695 |
M240i xDrive | $52,695 |
We believe that the rear-drive 230i is the best option to purchase. While its 255-hp turbo four engine is not as fast as the 382-hp straight-six in the M240i, we found it to be incredibly enjoyable to drive, especially with the inclusion of the Dynamic Handling and M Sport packages. The Dynamic Handling package requires the M Sport package, but when combined, they offer a range of performance enhancements such as larger wheels with stickier tires, firmer suspension components, stronger brakes, and more. Additionally, the unique visual treatments provided by these packages make them highly desirable.
